How do I connect an IMAP inbox to Eva (Titan, Zoho, iCloud and more)?

Eva now supports IMAP and all email providers under the sun.

Written by Ulric Musset

IMAP lets Eva work with almost any email provider other than Gmail and Microsoft: Titan, Zoho, iCloud, Yahoo, GoDaddy, IONOS, Namecheap and many more.

Tip: connect an IMAP inbox from a computer rather than the mobile app.

What you need

  • Your full email address and its password.

  • An app password, if your provider requires one. Yahoo, iCloud, AOL, GMX and Zoho do, and so does Titan when two-factor authentication is on. Your provider's help center explains how to create one.

  • If your provider isn't in the list: its incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server settings. Your provider's help center lists them.

Connect your inbox

  1. In Eva's chat, click the gear icon, then Inbox. During the first setup, choose Other instead.

  2. Choose IMAP, then click Connect an account.

  3. A sign-in window opens. Pick your provider from the list. If it isn't listed, choose the option to enter your own server settings.

  4. Enter your email address and your password or app password.

  5. Fill in the outgoing (SMTP) settings too. Eva doesn't need them to sort email and write drafts, but you need them to send a draft from Marblism with the Send button.

Titan settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.titan.email, port 993, SSL/TLS

  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.titan.email, port 465, SSL/TLS. If 465 doesn't work, use port 587 with STARTTLS.

Titan accounts hosted in the EU use different server names, such as imap0101.titan.email and smtp0101.titan.email. Titan's help center lists yours.

What can't connect with IMAP

  • Microsoft 365 work or school mailboxes, including shared mailboxes: Microsoft has turned off password sign-in for IMAP. Choose Outlook instead.

  • Proton Mail: its IMAP access only works for apps running on your own computer.

Where Eva files your email

In Eva's Settings, under Inbox, "How do you want emails to be organized?" has two options for IMAP:

  • Move (folder only), the default: once Eva labels an email, it leaves your Inbox for that folder.

  • Copy (inbox + folder): a copy goes to the folder and the original stays in your Inbox.

If emails seem to disappear from your Inbox, switch to Copy. See also I've connected to Eva with IMAP but I can't see emails come in!

If it stops working

Changing your password, or revoking the app password, stops the connection. Reconnect and sign in with the new one. See Why do my emails keep disconnecting?
