You can put your Walter site on a domain you already own. A guided setup connects it for you in a few clicks.
Step 1: Enter your domain
Open Walter's chat, click the gear icon for Settings, then Domain. Under Custom domain, type the domain you own, for example yourdomain.com. The box already shows www. in front: your site will live at www.yourdomain.com.
Step 2: Click Connect
This opens the guided setup in a window on top of the page. In the mobile app it opens your phone's browser instead, because domain providers don't allow signing in inside an app.
Sign in to your domain provider: the records are set for you.
Provider not supported? The same window shows the two records to add yourself: a CNAME record for www and an A record for your root domain. There's no TXT record.
Step 3: Wait for it to connect
When you finish, the domain shows as propagating. You can close Settings: nothing else is needed. Connecting can take 24 to 48 hours, and the status updates on its own while Settings is open.
Once it's connected, your domain shows your latest published version automatically. If you've never published your site, it goes live on your domain with your first publish.
What each status means
Domain still in the box with a Connect button (Pending DNS in the mobile app): the guided setup wasn't finished. Click Connect and complete it.
Blue card (Propagating): setup is done and the change is spreading. Nothing to do.
Green card (Connected): your site is live on your domain. Each publish updates it.
Red card (Action needed): click Connect to run the setup again. Walter's chat tells you why: the domain wasn't confirmed after about 72 hours, a record was removed, or our hosting couldn't activate it (in that case, contact support).
Stuck on pending or propagating?
Click Publish. Each publish re-checks your domain, and if your records are right, it connects during that publish. Publishing also puts your latest changes live. This doesn't help with Action needed.
Common errors
Invalid domain: check for typos, and enter a domain name, not an IP address, a port or a .marblism.me address.
"Domain already in use": another Walter site already uses this domain, in any workspace, including one of yours. Remove it there first.
A note on HTTPS
The security certificate is issued automatically when your domain connects. If your browser shows a security warning right after, wait a little and refresh.
Need help?
If your domain is stuck or showing an error, open the help chat and send a screenshot of Walter's Domain settings.
